Passed start point early in the morning, a good breeze last night. The ship [?]ing about sadly, a heavy swell on the sea. But all are getting used to it, in good health and spirits except a few of the females, and one child is very ill. Commenced the cooking in earnest – made a plain pudding (or dough) ready for boiling tomorrow, and a loaf with raisins, my first attempt. Prayer meeting in the evening. 9pm the wind is rising and the ship heaving a good deal. My head is a little confused but otherwise well. Expect to clear the land in the morning. Already the swell of the Altantic is easily distinguished by the length of the waves. The whole of the mess had brose and butter for supper, which was excellent.
